HAUTE COUTURE FALL/WINTER 2014 COLLECTION

Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli turn to Pre-Raphaelite art for Valentino’s Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2014-15 collection. Classic style is reinterpreted, using the roots of the past to embrace the future. They interpret Couture as the creation of something new through a continuous manipulation of icons and styles, free of nostalgia.

They envisage classic clothes with Olympian simplicity, worn with leather flat shoes, with an unexpected sensuality. The body is barely skimmed in long double column dresses and in georgette peplums that define and elongate an ethereal silhouette with glimpses of skin on the back, crisscrossed by leather laces and bands resembling lines that block the view yet sculpt and entice. Pieces of tapestries are arranged on skirts like patches, intarsia create Greek geometric shapes on furs, jackets and coats. Feather-covered vests, laminated furs, embroidered dresses, lacquered lace and laminated patchwork emanate lavishness.

MEN’S SPRING/SUMMER 2015 COLLECTION

“Reality, with a dash of magic”. In defining the ever evolving form of the Valentino man, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli look at this season inspired by outsiders and freethinkers: they elicit an effortless masculinity, precise silhouette with soft, loose volumes, geometric and fantastic prints.

Couture comes in to support and define the quest for uniqueness. Schemes are shattered, yet without shouting, mixing prints, wearing shorts with a suit. Camubutterfly brocades swarm on field jackets and army-inspired garments. Light coats are double knit and trimmed in leather; white shirts are made from impalpably fine wool. The layering of garments combines formal and sporty. Naturalness pervades the choice of materials, the colours are organic. Sneakers in viscose jacquard with hi-tech soles, lace-ups with thick soles, soft brocade bags and enamelled pins signal the expression of free thought.

WOMEN’S FALL/WINTER 2014-15 COLLECTION

For the Fall/Winter 2014-15 collection, Creative Directors were inspired by unconventional women artists from the Seventies: Giosetta Fioroni, Carol Rama and Carla Accardi. From the unique images of these artists, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli were inspired cathching the fresh energy and creating a dazzling collection where each outfit is a work of art.

The surfaces are textured - printed, decorated with intarsia and embellished. The silhouettes are sleek and graceful : long skirts, kimonos, capes, mini-dresses and full gathered skirts. On these pieces, lavish embellishments, oversized floral prints, diamond patterns, stripes and geometric shapes abound. Vivid colors are blended such as impeccable gray with vibrant notes of orange, red, fuchsia and green, illuminated by metallic glimmers of butterflies and flowers arranged in camouflage patterns. Materials are classic with the use of double wool, ultra-light silk, crêpe and leather. A collection with a playful tone, that communicates the pleasure of having fun in order to express oneself.

HAUTE COUTURE S/S 2014 COLLECTION

For Haute Couture SS 2014 graceful creatures, ethereal and primordial, inhabit a dreamlike world. Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli have created an opus of pure imagination, a harmonious and unexpected work, it is interpreted by a kaleidoscope of figures.

Media

The collection appears on a set, that is itself an accumulation of different scenes – the result of an ingenious partnership with the Rome Opera House – with which the clothes complement.A swarm of butterflies alight upon a cape, delicate and transitory. Lions, snakes, and gorillas appear as intarsia on coats and capes. Opulence acquires an airy yet ancestral quality in fringed jute dresses, in satin capes with knotted feathers, and in textured, glamorous coats crowded with African scenes. Draped cady dresses have pristine volumes and an archaic, affirmative presence akin to the figures of a choir.

Earthly hues such as grey, beige, brown and rust abound. The woman is always at the center: she is a multi-faceted and elusive figure dressed in ever-changing guises, because by denying movement, contradiction and change one rejects the exciting, imperfect energy of life.

MEN'S FALL/WINTER 2014 COLLECTION

The collection Fall/Winter 2014-15 is full of movement and shifts focus by easily and effortlessly combining pieces. Private becomes public and vice versa: pyjamas suits are made of classic fabrics with traditional patterns, and coats resemble heavy robes. Styles are modified by changing materials and purposes: five-pocket denims are custom-made and become the unexpected culmination of bespoke tailoring.

Show_media

Haute Couture coats are handmade in the ateliers in Rome. A cashmere t-shirt worn with matching trousers replaces the suit, re-interpreting the rules but not the sartorial finesse. A shirt is combined with trousers to create a jumpsuit of irreprehensible aplomb. An sense of relaxation reigns: volumes are softer with oversized double wool coats and unlined gently fitted suits. Patchwork and intarsia are tactile and visually stunning: stripes adorn the double-breasted coat, camouflage intarsia is created on double cashmere, and geometric motifs decorate shearling coats, pea coats and hunting jackets.

The mix finds its new balance in wool coats embroidered like rugs, and in the continuous blend of sartorial workmanship and technology such as heat-bonded tailoring. Naturalness is the defining character and balance is an evident condition. Materials are classic: Harris tweed, herringbone tweed, and camel’s hair. Colors are masculine: blue, indigo blue, gray, camel, and felt. Shoes are white sneakers with colorful stripes and combat boots with thick tread soles.

VALENTINO FASHION SHOW IN SHANGHAI

Debuting with a special show in Shanghai, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, Creative Directors of the House of Valentino, create a seasonless collection that mixes prêt-à-porter, accessories and Haute Couture into a surprising whole: a manifesto. The vocabulary of stylistic attitudes the couple have developed for the Roman house gets both strengthened and remastered.

Media

With a bold and unremitting move, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli focus on one single color - red, the ‘trait d’union’ between Valentino, whose association with red is almost a given, and a hue that’s so integral to Chinese culture. Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli interpret rouge in its countless shades throughout the whole collection. It’s a rouge that is grand and opulent, but that also has severity and lightness. It’s the rouge of firmness that leaves way to fluidity, and back; it’s the rouge of intarsia, patent shine, clusters of materials and subtle showmanship.

A rouge so kaleidoscopic and diverse, every woman can find her own key into it, making it her own. The new Valentino rouge is a timeless statement that is boldly yet subtly individual. Contrast and contamination, in the meantime, are affirmed as a key to the contemporary world. Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli put the individual to the fore: it’s each customer’s unique path into the House’s signatures that truly and deeply defines Valentino’s ineffable modernity.

WOMEN’S SPRING/SUMMER 2014 COLLECTION

For the Spring/Summer 2014, the Creative Directors go beyond safe and familiar territory to explore new elements. Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, after a visit to the Rome Opera workshops, noticed the affinities and differences between the atelier and the theatre and created a luxurious and opulent repertoire, blending Opera with the street.

The collection is a journey amidst elements borrowed from imaginary ethnic groups: subtle references are blended into an edgy vertical silhouette with a sleek sense of regality. Rich fabrics are combined with audacious skill: embroidered griffins perch on chinos and form a shield on bustier tops. Embroidered jackets worn over evening dresses have a luxurious dégagé look. Capes, ponchos, and blouses reduced to an abstraction of style have a solemn movement that is accented by denim. The body is sheathed in long ankle-length column dresses or exposed by micro playsuits.

Self-affirmation is expressed through ornamentation such as a lost wax cast jewelry and precious embellishments and details on leather footwear. Intense colors range from dark red and deep green to rich coral and absolute black. Sacredness and substance intertwine.
Combining ancestral austerity and sensual opulence, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli create an amazing and ever-changing look based on today’s modern woman.

HAUTE COUTURE F/W 2013 COLLECTION

Magic guides the design in this Haute Couture collection: Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli imagine each outfit as an absolute unique vision, a surprise for its wearer and its creator. The designers interpret their search for wonder as a thirst for knowledge, imagining and enchanting, an encyclopedic journey into Couture.

Media

While it celebrates fantasy, the collection also embraces an earthly dimension in which daytime prevails. The lines follow the figure with relentless precision to create fanciful ergonomic forms. Cashmere, herringbone patterns, and wool come in classic shades and are doubled in outfits with admirable aplomb. They blend with floral prints and cut-out scrolls on coats with precise complexity. Materials and shapes are a constant surprise: collars turn into martingales, small capes are attached to jackets or regal coats, and sleeves are extended.

Raffia and wool jacquard, coral branches, intarsia, prints, and tactile embellishments cover surfaces, capturing the attention and mesmerizing thoughts. Couture is celebrated in its essence: it is the maker of dreams because imagination creates reality, defining parallel but possible worlds.
Hand and mind unite, making dreams come true: intertwining and connecting, they weave unusual combinations.

MEN’S SPRING/SUMMER 2014 COLLECTION

Effortless naturalness is the defining note of this Spring/Summer Collection, designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli. Basing their work upon the urgency of today, Creative Directors aim to gradually build the ideal wardrobe for the modern man.

Designed for a man who looks at today’s fashion fads with a detached interest and who is more intent on defining a personal style that truly represents him. His elegance is natural and flawlessly imperfect. The Maison’s signature couture expertise is present and seamlessly blends together the traditional with a search for new functionality. The elements that compose each garment – pockets, flaps, martingales and collars - are accentuated by texture and color contrasts. Front and back do not perfectly match, everything is in its place yet the balance is slightly skewed.

Shirt-jackets, pea coats and parkas are made of a combination of different materials. The silhouette is crossed with powerful lines: heat-bonded bands, reflective strips and blanket stripes. Denim recovers its work wear status in sartorial suits and outerwear with an atelier mood. The palette blends shades of blue, denim blue, burgundy and bottle green.

READY TO WEAR FALL/WINTER 2013

For Fall Winter 2013, Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli designed a collection inspired by the paintings of Flemish masters and recognize their undeniable connections with our contemporary world: a glorification of everyday life; serene yet with a sense of detail and a taste for color.

Silhouettes are sleek and seemingly severe: small and curved like a vase or straight, they reveal the legs, graze the knee and touch the ankle.
Fragile sensuality is subtly expressed through square necklines that, like a cropped portrait, draw attention to the face.
Everything illuminates the features of the woman: white leather cut-out collars are applied to alpaca coats and little black dresses, while blouses with Calvinist simplicity are worn under clothes. Embellishments blend with materials: carpet textures, embroidery inspired by Delft ceramics, and chiné and jacquard motifs are reproduced on knitwear.

Shades of blue, pale yellow, scarlet red and gray are combined to attract and hold attention.
Accessories reveal a sensual severity: wide tongues on shoes with chunky heels expose the sides of the foot to reveal yet cover, patent leather and velvet are used together on lace-up shoes, bags are a sensuous carnal red.
Combining rigor and seduction, the collection creates a dazzling contrast that allows the woman to choose her look.

MEN'S FALL/WINTER 201314 COLLECTION

The Fall/Winter 2013-14 men’s fashion show held its debut in Paris joining the other collections of the house.
The collection had a modernist feel based on a search for clarity and simplicity, setting the tone for the new Valentino man.

Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpoalo Piccioli approached the menswear collection with couture instincts yet perspective was altered. The collection showed their desire to build an ideal wardrobe. Couture tailoring reflected a British influence without losing Italian sensuality. Capes created mysterious movement, leather bonded coats had strong architectural lines and suits were sartorial sleek. Fabrics included houndstooth and prince-of-wales check, black watch tartan as well as masculine checks.

Accessories included derby shoes made of a combination of different materials and Chelsea boots with transparent soles. There are triple clutches with wide bands and small wallets with elasticized bands.

The look is elegant, understated and sleek: the quintessence of flawless imperfection.
